Our good friend and talented musician Blake Manion has finished putting together his new site and some new music. Check out these tracks from his solo project. Being the nice guy that he is the tracks are free to download for your listening pleasure. Below is the first track he released from the project. If you like what you hear follow this link over to his site where you can listen to and download the rest of the CD. Plus if you in Colorado make sure you catch up with him at 15605 West 32nd Avenue, Golden, CO 80401 on May 7th for a open mic performance with The Bathtub Mary.

this new video by OK GO features a warehouse-sized rube golberg machine that ranges from tiny rolling balls to smashing tv sets with sledge hammers. the whole video is amazing, but i was a little put off by the end, where they thank state farm for making it happen.
my initial instinct was SELL OUTS (i mean band? insurance? how is that related) but then i stopped to think about it. without corporate money, i wouldn’t have seen that large, complex, well timed creation (because it probably cost a lot).
is corporate funding the future of creative projects? it sure helps the starving artists not be so starving and gives them a chance to think big. but it has the potential to cast a weird overtone on artistic works (ie how much of the vision is the artist’s and how much is the company’s?). but, for this video it just meant a little toy truck with “state farm” written on it and a quick closing tag.
overall their marketing was subtle, effective, and not too stifling. this time, i approve.
If you don’t know yet you will soon. B.o.B is a emerging rapper/producer/guitarist from Atlanta who has been working on his debut album for almost three years now. His real name is Bobby Ray but he preforms under his alter ego B.o.B (kind of a TI vs TIP thing). The music is a fresh breath into todays state of auto-tuned, over synthesized, robotic hip-hop. With live instruments, clever rhymes, and samples from Manu Chau to Three Dog Night, B.o.B is bringing his own take on hip-hop to the masses. Check him out before the album drops this April and everyone is wondering where he came from.
Here is a track from the B.o.B vs Bobby Ray mix tape. The mix tape is top shelf for sure and has a little something for everyone with appearances from Asher Roth, Kanye West, TI, and Bun B.

first i saw their VIDEO and i thought these guys were a joke. literally i assumed the whole thing was some sort of practical joke…. the video doesn’t exactly take itself seriously. then i went to their site and listened to a couple more of their tracks. and i never stopped. they’re still playing right now. they might sound kind of goof, but they’re also catchy as all out. it’s zuid afrikaanse street music, and i like it.
this is the track that kept me from leaving the site. good bass makes it ten times better.

our friend blake manion just released a new song called “give some back now” and it definitely hits the spot. humanity has done a lot of good things for ourselves, but we don’t do much for the world. our lifestyles are heading down the wrong path quick as they can. every little step in the right direction counts for something, and this song is one of them. not to mention it sounds real pretty.
Ok so here’s the deal. The Sasquatch line up doesn’t come out officially for another hour or so but we were lucky enough to have some people inside the release party who were willing to write down the announcement and text it to us like it was hot. Being the good people that we are we felt obligated to bring it to you. Enjoy

i was stalking the love lists of some french users on hypem and ran across this gui boratto track… something about it feels super familiar but i can’t put my finger on it. nevertheless it’s a nice combination of laid back yet energetic (which i’m super into right now).
i felt like the picture above fit with the music so i tossed it in too. i dunno why but i always enjoy music more when i have something visual to go with it (kinda like wine & cheese or pizza & beer). i shot this in seattle a few weeks back while i was exploring the odds n ends of fremont with dylan p.
