Our good friend and talented musician Blake Manion has finished putting together his new site and some new music. Check out these tracks from his solo project. Being the nice guy that he is the tracks are free to download for your listening pleasure. Below is the first track he released from the project. If you like what you hear follow this link over to his site where you can listen to and download the rest of the CD. Plus if you in Colorado make sure you catch up with him at 15605 West 32nd Avenue, Golden, CO 80401 on May 7th for a open mic performance with The Bathtub Mary.

From Seattle, to Salt Lake, to New York spring is knocking at the door. Although this makes it hard to sit down and get to work thats just what we’ve been doing. With the winter/spring mens line off the ground we’re excited to start moving ahead with some new fun projects. Keep your eyes and ears open for a girls release, some new music releases from northwest bands, a few events, and some other goodies.

this new video by OK GO features a warehouse-sized rube golberg machine that ranges from tiny rolling balls to smashing tv sets with sledge hammers. the whole video is amazing, but i was a little put off by the end, where they thank state farm for making it happen.
my initial instinct was SELL OUTS (i mean band? insurance? how is that related) but then i stopped to think about it. without corporate money, i wouldn’t have seen that large, complex, well timed creation (because it probably cost a lot).
is corporate funding the future of creative projects? it sure helps the starving artists not be so starving and gives them a chance to think big. but it has the potential to cast a weird overtone on artistic works (ie how much of the vision is the artist’s and how much is the company’s?). but, for this video it just meant a little toy truck with “state farm” written on it and a quick closing tag.
overall their marketing was subtle, effective, and not too stifling. this time, i approve.
